Colorizing Images With Gradients In Photoshop
In this Photoshop photo effects tutorial, we’ll learn how to add colorizing effects to images using gradients Specifically, we’ll look at the Gradient Map image adjustment and how it allows us to apply different colors to different brightness levels in the image. We’ll see how easy it is to create our own custom gradients in Photoshop so we can colorize our images with any colors we choose. As always, we’ll be using the adjustment layer version of the Gradient Map so we avoid making any changes to the original photo, and so we can easily adjust the intensity of the effect when we’re done!

Cross Processing Effect
Cross-processing is developing color print or slide film in the wrong chemicals — for example, color negative film in slide chemicals or slide film by the color negative process. Not surprisingly, this causes wild color and contrast shifts and requires lots of trial and error. But for a period in the 1980s and 1990s, cross-processed images were very much the vogue, with Nick Knight’s fashion and studio work being arguably the most influential. As for subject matter, try fashion or portraiture, but there’s no need to restrict your imagination. I chose an elegant outdoor portrait shot — the skin tones and red lipstick look especially striking in cross-processed images.

Enhance the colors of an image
In this Photoshop tutorial on digital photo editing, we’re going to look at how to tint and enhance colors in a photo using Photoshop’s Photo Filter. If Photoshop’s Photo Filter isn’t one of the most widely used features in the program, it certainly deserves to be.
Not only is it easy to use, it’s the only feature in Photoshop that lets you choose colors simply by selecting color names from a list! It also has several valuable uses, one of which we’ve already looked at in a previous tutorial – Neutralizing Color Casts With The Photo Filter – and this time, we’re going to learn how to use it to tint and enhance colors in an image.
At its most basic level, the Photo Filter can be used to warm up or cool down the overall colors in a photo, but since we’re going to be using the adjustment layer version which comes with a built-in layer mask, we can combine multiple Photo Filters to tint and enhance specific areas of an image individually, which is what we’ll be doing in this tutorial.

When it comes to color correcting images in Photoshop, removing color casts from the highlight and shadow areas is usually pretty straightforward since it’s quite easy to find the brightest and darkest areas in an image. But what about the midtones? How do you find that area in the image that’s supposed to be neutral gray? Usually, you guess and hope for the best, since Photoshop doesn’t seem to have any way of easily pointing out those midtone gray areas for us.
