Gradients are very important part of the Adobe Photoshop software. Using Gradients you can get a very beautiful illusion of depth in the designs. Photoshop incorporates gradient tool which is very simple to use and yet powerful. Mastering gradients can be tricky or just say hard for a beginner. Good thing is that there are many designers who are willing to give away gradients designed by them created during their projects for free. Enjoy.

If you are confused between layer styles(.ASL) and gradients (.GRD) , then one of the simple explanation is layer styles are made from gradients with a series of settings. Gradients are made within Photoshop by using gradient editor tool. Gradients can be applied as many times in a single layer as needed, which makes it more function-able unlike layer styles.

Install Gradients
Ok, if you are a newbie you will be looking forward to install these .GRD files which you have downloaded. It will be simply best to copy them to the Photoshop presets folder. If your Photoshop CS5 version is 32 bit then its here “C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Gradients” , if its 64bit version paste it here “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Presets\Gradients” .

Where to find Gradient Tool?
The below image shows this clearly or just use keyword ” G ” to bring up the tool. Oh and setting blend mode in gradient tool from normal to color will be the best option for adding coloring in your photos. ( just my opinion)
